Year End Round-Up

It is pleasant to note that General Financials have been one of the best-performing sectors in 2013 with a 42% rise in the sector index, more than double the 17% rise in the All-Share. The Non-Life Insurance index is only up 12% but that is largely due to the 27% fall in the price of RSA and the 20% drop in esure since its overpriced float in March: the smaller Lloyd’s insurers have risen around 50% while Amlin is up 20% making Catlin a relative laggard up only 15% in line with the overall market.
W H Ireland’s pre-close trading statement reported that both the private wealth management and the corporate broking divisions performed strongly in its second half, so the profit for 2012/13  will be ahead of market expectations
